Jim O’Neill has become a Reform UK Councillor, following a by-election being called – 3 October 2024

It was called following the resignation of Labour councillor Sarah Smith who was elected as MP for Hyndburn in Lancashire at the 4 July 2024 General Election.

Previously the seat had been contested in May 2023, where there was a turnout of 1580, and this time the turnout had dropped to 1195 (23.12%)

There’s always different ways to view results, but in May 2023, 2-seats were up for grabs, with Labour securing both – a total of 1613 votes for Labour. This time around, without Labour support being split over two candidates, Labour received 334 for the one candidate.

Libdems didn’t field a candidate in 2023, but garnered little support with 33 votes.

Conservative support over halved.
